Six monthly Residual Current Devices (RCDs) checks
Testing has to be completed and documented every six months.
RCD testing is the process of safely “tripping” RCD devices to ensure these will operate quickly should there be an electrical incident. This is also known as safety switch testing. RCDs are designed to trip, or switch off all the power to that circuit. To test RCDs, press the button marked “T” or “Test”.
The RCD should switch off the supply and should then be switched on to restore the supply. If the device does not switch off the supply when the button is pressed, seek advice as soon as possible from a qualified electrician.
