At St. Mary’s CE Primary, Design and Technology (DT) forms an important part of the curriculum. The curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for pupils to explore existing products and gain technical knowledge from famous engineers, designers and inventors. For example, the children work with our ethical uniform provider to create bags from recycled materials. DT provides a multitude of opportunities for our children to design and make products that solve real-life problems within a variety of contexts by using the skills that they learn and build upon throughout their educational journey. Most importantly, these open-ended projects celebrate innovation and imagination; and encourage children to be bold, to be brave and to take risks.
Progression
Our DT curriculum is progressive from when the children start school to when they leave. It builds on knowledge and skills so they are ready for the next phase of their education.
