Spring 1 – 2025

This half-term, we will be looking at the value of courage.

Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
It can take great courage to do something new or challenging. We call this stepping out of our comfort zone. Sometimes just small steps are needed, but they can take us to new and exciting places.
Can you think of a time where you have stepped out of your comfort zone?
Courage is…
Carrying on when things are difficult
Overcoming fear
Understanding and facing a challenge
Risking being our of your comfort zone
Always believing in God’s promises
Going for a goal
Empowered by encouragement
This video tells of a time in the life of Moses when his courage was really tested:
Do you have a challenge that lies ahead? It could be a hobby that you have away from school or a target you want to reach in school.
Spend a moment to think about some small steps you could take to start achieving your challenge
Doing the Right Thing, Not the Easy Thing
Our words of wisdom from the Bible are:
‘Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’
Joshua 1.9
This story tells of a time when someone needed courage to do the right thing, not the easy thing:
Have you ever needed the courage to do the right thing, not the easy thing?
What could you learn from this story?
Think of a time when you did the right thing that may not have been easy. How did it make you feel?
What will you do next time you face a tough decision to do the right thing?
Facing a Challenge
Which character do you think showed the most courage and why?
Do you think it made a difference to Joshua to know that God was with him?
Overcoming a Fear
What are you scared of?
Does it stop you doing anything?
We might be a bit afraid, but we still do things or we would miss out on enjoying life.
We show courage!
In the Bible it says:
Perfect love casts out all fear
1 John 4.18
What do you think this means?
Encouraging Others
The word courage can be found in two other words…
Encourage and Discourage
What do these words mean to you?
How can you encourage others to be the best they can be?
